Brian Hamilton-Hyatt was one of several men arrested and charged after a multi-jurisdictional police operation in July 2023. London Police were a part of Project S.A.F.E. looking into drug and gun smuggling going on across the border between the United States and Canada. In April, the 41-year-old Hamilton-Hyatt pleaded guilty to three counts including being a part of organized crime, trafficking firearms and money laundering. In a joint sentencing submission both the Crown and the defence asked that Hamilton-Hyatt receive a six-year, nine-month sentence. Justice Alissa Mitchell agreed, “The crimes that have been committed are serious because they involved organized crime.” She continued, “This was a case of being caught up in organized crime…with an opportunity to make some quick money.” With credit for time already served, Hamilton-Hyatt has about two years left to serve behind bars. Two other men have already been dealt with and sentenced, with one more still before the courts. Before being lead away, Hamilton-Hyatt who had no prior criminal record told the court he regretted getting involved in the scheme.
