Police in Greater Sudbury, Ont., say a six-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a vehicle May 19 while on foot at a co-operative housing complex in Minnow Lake. Greater Sudbury police said the tragedy occurred on Second Avenue at the Palace Place Co-Op just after 3:30 p.m. “Emergency personnel immediately initiated CPR and other life-saving measures at the scene,” police said in a news release May 20. “A six-year-old girl was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.” Police said the victim was killed after getting off the school bus and that the collision took place in a residential parking area. Sgt. Blair Ramsay told CTV News on Wednesday that the young victim was walking on private property after getting off the school bus when she was hit. “They exited the school bus safely,” Ramsay said. “It was 30 or 40m away on private property when the collision occurred.” Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Investigation will take some time Ramsay also told CTV News that charges could be laid, but that decision will take some time. “These investigations can be lengthy,” he said. “We are applying for some search warrants and (conducting) a follow-up investigation.
