A 42-year-old man was killed Thursday morning at a job site in Hanmer after he was trapped underneath an excavator. Greater Sudbury police responded at 8:15 a.m. to a residence on Dominion Drive. “Information provided was that a contract worker was trapped beneath an excavator,” police said in a news release. “Greater Sudbury police, fire and paramedic services were dispatched to the scene. Unfortunately, the 42-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.” Under investigation Police aren’t releasing the victim’s name after a request from the family. “Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends,” the release said. The fatality is being investigated by multiple agencies, including the police traffic unit, criminal investigators, the coroner’s office and the Ministry of Labour. “The investigation into the incident is ongoing,” police said. “Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.”
