West Nipissing Hospital needs to replace its mammography unit

On Tuesday, the West Nipissing General Hospital Foundation launched a fundraising campaign to replace its mammography unit.

On Tuesday, the West Nipissing General Hospital Foundation launched a fundraising campaign.

The ‘Our Community, Our Health, Our Future- Double Your Impact with Caisse Alliance’s campaign is raising funds to replace the hospital’s aging mammography unit.

The financial services cooperative kicked off the campaign by donating $75,000. In addition, it will match every dollar donated up to a maximum of $25,000, bringing Caisse Alliance’s total contribution to $100,000.

Marcy Lemieux, regional director at Caisse Alliance, urges the community to donate.

“We care about the health of our communities and truly value supporting community organizations and participating in important efforts such as this,” Lemieux said.

The hospital said replacing the machine is essential, with increasing demand and expanded screening eligibility.

“We’ve had this equipment for about 10 years (and) it’s at end-of-life November 2025 this year,” said Shawn Page, chair of the hospital’s foundation.

“It services about 1,400 people here in West Nipissing every year and, you know, early detection is a huge part of getting those early diagnosis. So we don’t want people to have to do it either North Bay or Sudbury. We want to keep that here in West Nipissing.”

The goal is to raise enough to replace the mammography unit, which is $475,000.
