Two people have been charged with criminal negligence causing death in connection with the death of a Sudbury teenager in May 2025. Roch (Rocco) Renaud, 19, died of acute carbon monoxide poisoning May 23, 2025, while working at a residence in Lively. His remains were found around 8 p.m. that day. Ministry of Labour confirmed that Renaud “was fatally injured while performing maintenance work,” the ministry said at the time. A post-mortem was conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. The Ontario Provincial Police assumed responsibility for the investigation on June 18, 2025, at the request of the Greater Sudbury Police Service. Sudbury police asked the OPP to take over the case after questions emerged about the conduct of two off-duty officers the day Renaud died. A chief’s complaint was initiated about the conduct of the off-duty police officers in connection with the case. Two suspects, company charged On Oct. 8 of this year, two men, a 59-year-old from Sheguiandah and a 53-year-old from Lively, were charged with criminal negligence causing death, along with Sunswim Pool Concepts and Design Ltd. of Coniston. Both accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on Jan. 6, 2027. “The investigation remains ongoing by the OPP northeast region crime unit, under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
