Two face drug trafficking charges after northwestern Ontario raid

A joint forces police operation last week has resulted in drug trafficking charges for two residents of northwestern Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police officers, with assistance from the Anishinabek Police Service, executed a search warrant at a residence in Helen Lake First Nation, also known as Red Rock Indian Band, on Feb. 18.

During the search, police located and seized suspected crack cocaine, methamphetamine pills and $1,895 in cash.

“The drugs have a combined street value of approximately $11,250,” OPP said in a news release.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, both residents of Lake Helen First Nation, have been charged with two counts of drug trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime. The man is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

Both accused were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay at a later date.
