Two charged in connection to Parry Sound vehicle theft spree

Ontario Provincial Police have arrested two individuals following a string of thefts from vehicles in Parry Sound last month.

At about 7 a.m. on July 27, officers responded to reports of multiple thefts in the Waubeek Street area.

“Ten vehicles were targeted by thieves earlier in the night,” police said in a news release.

Investigators later located the suspects as they allegedly used stolen credit cards at various locations in Parry Sound.

Charges laid against accused pair

A 33-year-old man from London and a 33-year-old woman from Georgian Bay Township face multiple charges, including:

• seven counts of trespassing,
• three counts each of theft, theft of a credit card, and illegal use of a credit card,
• identity theft,
• possession of property obtained by crime,
• possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime and
• nine counts of mischief.

The man was additionally charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The woman faces an extra charge of failing to comply with a release order.

Both accused were held for bail pending a court appearance Friday.

Authorities remind public to secure vehicles

In the OPP news release, authorities urged residents to take precautions to safeguard their vehicles.

“Police are reminding members of the public to keep valuables out of sight and to make sure vehicles are locked,” said OPP.
