Two individuals are facing charges after police say officers seized illicit drugs at a RIDE stop in Garden River First Nation earlier this week. The Anishinabek Police Service said officers stopped a vehicle in the early morning hours of Sept. 16 as part of a RIDE program being conducted in the area of Highway 17B and Belleau Lake Road. “A roadside investigation determined that the driver was in breach of a probation order,” the Indigenous police force said in a news release Friday. Police said the driver was arrested without incident. “A search of the motor vehicle incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of 4.5 grams of suspected fentanyl (some green, some blue),” added police. Two charged As a result of the incident, the driver, a 33-year-old local man, and his passenger, a 28-year-old woman from Sault Ste. Marie, were both charged with drug possession. The driver was also charged with failing to comply with a probation order. Both were released on undertakings. Ongoing investigation “This investigation is ongoing,” said police.
