Police in Timmins are investigating a string of shootings across the city, including two deadly incidents and two recent shootings at residences in the city’s north end. The latest incidents happened Sunday on Rea Street North, where shots were fired at two separate residences. Police officials said no one was injured in either shooting. Investigators told CTV News they believe the same person was responsible for both incidents, but no arrests have been made. “We believe it was just targeted at the residences,” said Timmins Deputy Police Chief Darren Dinel. Dinel said the investigation remains in its early stages. The shootings come just over two weeks after two homicides in Timmins. The first happened July 31. one person was shot and killed following an altercation on Balsam Street North. Within 24 hours, another shooting on Rea Street South left one person dead and another seriously injured. Four people were charged in connection with the incidents. “The two individuals that were involved at the residence. They were charged with first degree murder,” said Dinel. “That’s all before the courts at this point and we’ll see where that process takes.” Dinel said all of the incidents are believed to be related to the drug trade. Dinel said a significant quantity of drugs was seized during the Aug. 1 incident. However, investigators have not established a definitive link among all three events. “At this point, there’s nothing substantive that we can say,” Dinel told CTV News. As the investigations continue, Dinel said patrols and compliance checks have increased throughout the city.
