A 13-year-old faces multiple charges after police in Sault Ste. Marie say he punched an adult and sprayed them with bear spray on Tuesday while the victim was trying to protect another youth. Police said officers responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of John Street around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 following a 911 call. Investigation details “An investigation revealed the accused youth had punched an adult victim multiple times and sprayed them with bear spray,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Wednesday, adding that at the time of the assault, the victim was attempting to defend a youth known to the accused. “The victim sustained minor physical injuries,” police said. Multiple charges The accused attended the Police Services Building around 7:15 p.m. on the same day as the incident and was taken into custody. As a result of the investigation, the teen was charged with assault, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious thing, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a weapon. The 13-year-old was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17.
