Police in Greater Sudbury have charged a 58-year-old woman with harassing communications and mischief for repeatedly calling a group in Sault Ste. Marie. She was charged Sept. 24 following an investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service found she made 3,000 calls in April to an unnamed organization in the Sault. Police received the complaint in April, leading Sudbury police to issue her a warning to stop calling the organization. But the police warning did not stop the nuisance calls. Calls kept coming “Investigations revealed the accused had called the organization an additional 364 times between April 9 and 17,” Sault police said in a news release Thursday. She called another 83 times from Aug. 12-18, and 572 times from Aug. 15-18. “It was reported that the phone calls interfered with the organization’s operations,” police said. “Warrants were obtained for the accused’s arrest.” She turned herself in Sept. 24 and was charged with three counts of harassing communication and two counts of mischief. The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24.
