Greater Sudbury is asking the public to evaluate the city’s response to the massive snowstorm that struck the area in mid-March. “The major winter storm brought severe and prolonged conditions that affected roads, transit, emergency response, waste collection and other municipal services,” the city said in a news release June 1. “While internal reviews are a routine part of the city’s emergency management process, city council has directed staff to undertake a more detailed review of this event, including gathering community feedback and solutions and ideas for improving the city’s response to future significant weather events.” An online survey is now available, asking residents to share their opinions on how the municipality handled the storm response. The survey, which can also be completed over the phone, will be active until June 14. “This feedback will help the city better understand residents’ experiences during the storm and identify opportunities to strengthen operations, service updates and emergency communications for future severe weather events,” the release said. People who fill out the survey will be asked about their views on service priorities during major weather events. Questions include which disruptions affected them most, their opinions on the city’s communication efforts during and after the storm and suggestions for improving future storm response. People are also being asked “what aspects of the city’s response worked well,” the release said. To complete the survey, click here or call 311. “The survey is not intended for individual service requests, complaints about specific addresses or compensation claims,” the release added. “Those matters should be directed to 311.”
