Police locate suspect in Sudbury convenience store robbery after K9 track

Greater Sudbury police are dealing with a heavy police presence in the city’s Elm Street area following reports of a robbery at a convenience store on Tuesday morning.

Officers first responded to the Kwik-Way on Elm Street near Beatty Street around 11 a.m.

“The (canine) unit is on route to potentially conduct a track,” said Greater Sudbury Police Service spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said in an email to CTV News at about 11:15 a.m.

One injured, suspect flees

“One person has been transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said Dunn.

In a subsequent social media post, police said the “suspect fled on foot” from the scene and that a canine track was underway.

Residence contained, public asked to avoid area

The investigation led police to a nearby residence.

“Officers have (a) residence on Elm Street contained,” police said in an update on social media at 12:46 p.m.

“Individual involved in incident (is) believed to be inside.”

The public is being asked to avoid the areas of Elm Street, Ethelbert Street, Maclachlan Street and Spruce Street.

“Please do not livestream images/footage of officers on scene,” said police.

The Kwik-Way store was closed following the incident, with a sign on the door stating it was shut due to a “medical emergency.”

Police said more updates will follow.
