A three-vehicle crash on Sudbury’s Lasalle extension Tuesday morning has resulted in the death of a 44-year-old man and the serious injury of another. It happened on the two-lane stretch between Frood Road and Elm Street around 6:15 a.m., Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release. “Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that a Blue Dodge Caravan was travelling westbound on the Lasalle Extension when it collided with a Black Dodge Dart and a Grey Ford F-150, both travelling eastbound,” police said. “Unfortunately, a 44-year-old, man, the driver of the Dodge Dart, was pronounced deceased on scene. A 43-year-old man, the driver of the Dodge Caravan, was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Ford F-150 The crash site is located at the bend in the road and police vehicles and barricades are blocking the entrances to the extension. Reopened around 4 p.m. The roadway reopened around 4 p.m. There is no word on whether any charges are pending. “Anyone who has a dash camera and was travelling on the Lasalle Extension between Frood Road and Elm Street between 6 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. this morning, June 17, is asked to review the footage and contact the traffic management unit at 705-675-9171 with any relevant information,” police said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased. His name will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes.” A transport truck, that was not involved in the crash, is parked on the side of the westbound lane between the Frood Road roundabout and the crash site. The driver told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca it will have to wait until the road reopens as there is not enough room to turn around on the two-lane street. CTV News witnessed several near misses on Elm Street at the Lasalle Boulevard on ramp as westbound vehicles made U-turns due to the road closure. 2nd Crash in Chelmsford Police closed Highway 144 on Tuesday afternoon due to a crash at MR35 in Chelmsford. One person has been taken to hospital as a result of this second crash, Sudbury police said on social media around 1:30 p.m.
