A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after an alleged early morning assault involving a knife over the long weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. Police say the incident began to unfold around 1 a.m. on Aug. 1. The investigation began when 911 operators received a report of the assault on Aug. 2, which prompted further police action. “An investigation revealed the accused kicked and punched the victim, held a knife to them and verbally threatened to harm them,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Tuesday. Police said the victim, who is also a youth, sustained minor physical injuries in the altercation. Investigators added that the victim and the accused are known to one another. Police said officers subsequently located the teen and took them into custody around 1:10 a.m. on Aug. 3. Teen faces 8 charges The teen faces charges of assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause bodily harm. Additionally, they have been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and four counts of breach of recognizance. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
