Province says speed limits to increase on most highways to 110 km/h

Ontario raises highway speed limits to 110 km/h on most provincial routes, citing improved travel times for families and commuters.

The province said June 24 it’s increasing the speed limit on most highways across Ontario to 110 km/h beginning this weekend.

A 60 km/h section of Highway 69 from Sudbury to French River was increased to 110 km/h by the province in 2024.

The province had previously approved the same speed limit increase on 16 sections of highways in 2022, including 55 kilometres of Highway 400 from MacTier to Nobel.

“We’re going to keep supporting commuters, workers and businesses by investing in our $31 billion plan to build and expand roads and highways, so we can get people and goods moving across Ontario and keep workers on the job,” transport minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said in a news release June 24.

Most of Ontario’s freeway network was originally designed to safely accommodate a posted speed of 110 km/hour, the province said.
