A recent police strategy in downtown Sudbury focused on dealing with open-air public drug use, criminal activity and social disorder. It also supported efforts to connect vulnerable people with community resources and services, police said in a release Nov. 6. Police made 23 arrests after executing 41 outstanding arrest warrants, with 14 arrests made under the Controlled Substances Act. Officers also seized 11.2 grams of fentanyl. Police said it remains committed to maintaining a visible presence in the downtown by addressing criminal activity and responding to community concerns. Eight people accepted referrals to community and support services after 18 people were solicited. “Officers work to identify opportunities to connect vulnerable individuals with supports aimed at addressing the underlying factors contributing to substance use, homelessness, and other social challenges,” police said.
