Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 41-year-old local man with several offences, including assaulting police with a weapon, after responding to a dispute in Parry Sound over the weekend. OPP’s West Parry Sound detachment responded to a call on Miller Street at about 3 p.m. on Sunday after reports of a family quarrel. Authorities said the situation escalated upon their arrival. “The accused assaulted family members and pulled out an edged weapon when confronted by police,” OPP said in a news release. Officers were able to disarm the individual, who then continued to resist arrest. As a result of the investigation, the man has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, resisting a peace officer and two counts of mischief. The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to make another court appearance on Sept. 11.
