Motorcyclist dies after crash on Highway 144 in northern Ontario

A 66-year-old motorcyclist from the Greater Sudbury community of Val Caron has died after a collision on Highway 144, north of Onaping, earlier this month.

Ontario Provincial Police said the crash occurred around 1 p.m. on July 3, when the motorcycle left the roadway and entered a ditch. At the time, authorities said the driver sustained serious, life-altering injuries and was transported to hospital by emergency crews.

On Saturday, OPP confirmed the driver succumbed to their injuries.

Highway 144 was closed in both directions for nearly nine hours last Thursday as officers investigated.

Collision reconstructionists are assisting in determining the cause of the crash.

OPP said the investigation remains ongoing.
