Opening ceremonies for the Canadian Mining Expo is set for June 10 at 11 a.m. at the McIntyre Community Complex in Timmins. “The ceremony will bring together provincial ministers, municipal leaders, Indigenous representatives, mining executives and international delegates in what has become one of northern Ontario’s most important annual gatherings of the mining industry,” organizers said in a news release. Speakers at the ceremony include Stephen Lecce, Ontario Minister of Energy and Mines, and Timmins MPP George Pirie, who is also Ontario Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. Several regional mayors will also speak, including Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau. “The Grand Opening Ceremony marks the official start of the Canadian Mining Expo, Canada’s premier boots-on-the-ground mining trade show,” the release said. Pivotal time for mining “This year’s event arrives at a pivotal time for the mining sector as Ontario continues to advance critical minerals development, strengthen supply chains, expand Indigenous partnerships and address workforce shortages across the industry.” The theme for this year’s expo is, ‘Where the World Comes to Explore.’ That theme “is reflected by the attendance of an international delegation of approximately 80 mine owners and mining executives from Tanzania, along with industry representatives from across Canada and beyond,” the release said. Now in its 31st year, the Canadian Mining Expo is one of Canada’s largest mining trade events, attracting thousands of attendees and more than 400 indoor and outdoor exhibits. The event begins June 9 with a dinner, followed by the opening ceremony June 10 and trade shows that extend into June 11.
