Man faces more than two dozen charges in vehicle theft probe in northwestern Ont.

A Thunder Bay Police Service investigation into several vehicle thefts has resulted in charges against two suspects – including one man facing dozens of alleged offences.

Officers began the investigation on March 5 in response to encountering a stolen vehicle.

“Two suspects in the case fled from officers on more than one occasion during the investigation,” police said in a news release.

Police said that through their investigation, two suspects connected to the vehicle thefts were identified.

First suspect charged

On April 13, officers located and arrested one suspect.

The 35-year-old local man has been charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of theft, one count of fraud, four counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, four counts of operation while prohibited, four counts of flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief, causing a disturbance and assault with a weapon.

“Some of the accused’s charges relate to outstanding warrants,” police said.

In addition, the man was charged with disobeying a court order, failing to comply with a release order and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Second suspect in custody

On April 14, following a police standoff in the Bay Street and Cornwall Avenue area, officers arrested a second suspect.

“Details regarding the second suspect will be released following their first court appearance,” police said.
