Human remains have been located in a remote area of northeastern Ontario by provincial police, who are acting in support of an ongoing homicide investigation originating in Windsor. Ontario Provincial Police announced the discovery near Bourkes Road, about 30 kilometres south of the Township of Black River-Matheson, on Friday evening. The remains were found by the OPP North East Region Crime Unit on Oct. 17. The discovery was made during an evidence search involving various specialized OPP teams, including forensic identification services and the canine unit. The evidentiary search is being conducted under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch to support a Windsor Police Service investigation. Police presence expected to continue “OPP is advising the public to expect an increased police presence and stay away from the area as the investigation continues,” said police in a news release. OPP did not release any further details about the identity of the remains and has directed inquiries about the homicide investigation to the Windsor Police Service.
