We have an update on the 27 dogs that were rescued from a hoarding situation in a two-bedroom apartment in Sudbury. Sixty days later there is a big change.

CTV News caught up with several of 11-month-old lab, labradoodle, bully mix pups on Friday for playtime.

They have been at PetSave Sudbury for the past two months days getting a lot of care and confidence building.

“Completely anti-social when they arrived – huddled in corners” said PetSave founder Jill Pessot.

“Now they love the outdoors. You know their first day on grass they just kinda froze but now they are just out running. We have a one acre fenced in pen here and they love the outdoors.”

“They were never outside, never on leashes,” said Ava Chénier an animal care attendant with the organization.

“They would always be inside so working with them just you have to be very patient very calm. Show them that you are safe.”

Many of the rescued animals have been adopted but PetSave said the older pups needed more work – but many are now ready for adoption.

“We even have volunteers that actually bring them to their houses now, so they are getting ready to go out for adoption and everything,” said Chénier.

“They are getting house broken they are getting exposed to what it is like to be a normal dog in a household.”

PetSave said this case came to light when a concerned family member reported the hoarding to the organization.

“If you are aware of a situation where someone has multiple animals you know the quicker you get into those homes and help fix the problem the better. It’s better for the animals it’s better for our organization,” said Pessot.

PetSave said the parents of the pups were spayed and neutered and returned to their owner as part of the deal to end the hoarding situation.
