One person is deceased and four others have been transported to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, following a serious two-vehicle crash on Nipissing Street in West Nipissing on Saturday night. Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident at about 11:40 p.m. on Jan. 24. Injuries detailed as investigation continues OPP first announced the collision in a social media post at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, advising of road closures and to avoid the area. “Front Street is closed between Parker Street and Church Street in West Nipissing due to a serious two-vehicle collision,” police wrote at the time. In subsequent news releases, police confirmed the passenger of one vehicle, a 62-year-old woman from Sudbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two other occupants of that vehicle sustained minor injuries and were treated by paramedics at the scene. Emergency medical personnel and Air Ornge transported four occupants from the second vehicle to area hospitals. On Monday, OPP provided an update on the conditions of those victims, saying one person suffered serious, life-threatening injuries, while the other three had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police technical collision investigation and reconstruction teams were called in to determine the cause of the collision and remained at the scene for several hours. “The investigation remains ongoing,” said police. Roadways reopen As of 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Front Street reopened to traffic and Nipissing Street reopened shortly after 10:45 a.m. Police are appealing to the public for information.
