JERUSALEM - An Israeli official says the country's new ambassador to Egypt is slated to arrive in Cairo on Monday, three months after a mob ransacked Israel's embassy there.

The official said on Sunday that Ambassador Yaakov Amitai will join the handful of embassy staffers still in Cairo. The previous ambassador, most of the staff and their families were evacuated after the September attack.

The official says the Israeli Embassy still has no permanent location. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the timing of the ambassador's arrival had not been officially announced.

The strong showing by Islamist parties in Egypt's recent elections is adding uncertainty to ties between Egypt and Israel, whose peace agreement has anchored regional stability for three decades.
