PORTLAND, Ore. - Rescuers have suspended the search for a Canadian man who has been missing in the rugged, high desert mountains of northeastern Nevada since March.
Hunters found the man's wife, 56-year-old Rita Chretien, weak but alive on May 6. But there's been no sign of her husband since he set out March 22 from the couple's stuck van.
The Oregonian newspaper reports that the Elko County Sheriff's Office in Nevada said Monday that the search for 59-year-old Albert Chretien may resume if conditions improve and snow melts, or if investigators get any leads on his location.
About 160 people from the sheriff's office, other agencies and search-and-rescue groups have been looking for the Penticton, British Columbia, man.
Rita Chretien stayed in the van for seven weeks, surviving on trail mix, candy and snow.
