Longueuil police (SPAL) is launching the second edition of its SALUT project, aimed at finding suspects involved in alleged fraud cases. More specifically, the force says it wants to crack down on those who could be falsifying their identities. “This project targets suspects who are still active within the agglomeration’s territory,” Longueuil police notes. “Though several investigations have led to arrests, some cases remain active, hence the importance of continuing and strengthening this citizen-collaboration initiative.” Longueuil police states that in 2024, investigators handled “several hundred fraud cases,” including schemes targeting vulnerable people, particularly seniors. The SALUT project involves the public release of images, captured by surveillance cameras, of alleged suspects not yet identified by police. “Any information provided by the public could prove crucial in identifying and locating the suspects and curbing the spread of these fraudulent schemes,” said Longueuil police, adding that it saw some success with the project’s first edition.
