Two Montreal Walmart locations are set to close their doors this summer following what the retail giant describes as a “strategic review.” The Côte-des-Neiges location (6700 Côte-des-Neiges Rd.) will shut down on June 19, with the Pointe-aux-Trembles store (12675 Sherbrooke St. East) following on June 26. The corporation said affected employees will be offered the chance to “continue working [...] at nearby Walmart locations.” “Although these decisions are never easy, they are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure we are meeting the evolving needs of our customers and positioning our business for continued growth in Quebec,” said Steeve Azoulay, Walmart’s senior director of public affairs. The company hinted that additional store openings may be coming, though no further details were provided. At least 18 existing locations in the province are also expected to undergo renovations in the near future, and a new Supercentre in Sherbrooke remains on track to open later this year. Walmart operates more than 70 stores across Quebec and employs over 12,000 people in the province. - With files from Noovo Info
