Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada has a new plan to regulate the city’s nightlife. Her administration launched the “Nuits Montreal” certification program on Friday, which aims to “restore Montreal’s reputation as a vibrant nightlife destination.” The city said “qualified establishments” will be allowed to stay open late on approved evenings. The 21 establishments in the Ville-Marie, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie and Sud-Ouest boroughs are included on the map below: The city gave the following reasons for choosing these locales: In 2024, the previous administration proposed “noctural zone” in neighbourhoods across the metropolis, in addition to a 24-hour nightlife district. That zone was never created, however. The three hubs the city has chosen for the establishments are in the following zones: Stickers designating the spot as ‘Nuits Montreal-certified’ will be distributed. The city said it will offer $5,000 grants to establishments to implement the new program. “Montreal is a major cultural metropolis, renowned for its vibrant energy and unique nightlife, which are essential to strengthening our cultural and economic appeal on the international stage,” said Verdun city councillor Andréanne Moreau. ”I would like to thank the establishments that are committed to promoting Montreal while acting responsibly towards their neighbourhood.”
