Standing water in the parking lot of a PFK (Kentucky Fried Chicken) in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood is a growing health and safety concern for residents nearby. The people interviewed by CTV voiced their frustrations over the issue, with some describing the water as a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a slipping hazard. “They call it a swimming pool that nobody dares to go in because it’s dangerous to health,” said resident Barry Danne. The PFK is located near the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Barclay Avenue. The water overflows from the edge of the parking lot, spilling onto the sidewalk and trickling into the street. Residents have said it’s smelly and could be dangerous or get people sick. One business owner says she wants the city to do something. “So many people complain, [we call] the city, nobody listens,” said Ranjitamalar Ehampara of Aliments Exotiques. The borough says its aware of the situation, but it is not their responsibility to fix the issue. According to the city, the problem is coming from the restaurant’s sewer pipes. They say they notified the owner a few weeks ago. CTV News reached out to PFK, but did not hear back at time of publication. With rain expected this weekend, residents fear that the problem could get worse before it gets better. “I want to see [it] cleared,” said Danne.
