SAAQclic fiasco report delayed again to February 2026

The Quebec government has agreed for a second time to postpone when the Gallant Commission, which is investigating the SAAQclic fiasco, must submit its report and recommendations.

Under this new postponement, announced Thursday morning, the commission will have until Feb. 13, 2026, to complete its work.

In a brief press release, Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette’s office didn’t provide any explanation for this new delay.

Commissioner Denis Gallant was originally scheduled to submit his final report by Sept. 30. In June, the government pushed back that deadline to Dec. 15.

After hearing from politicians and current and former employees of the Quebec’s automobile insurance board (SAAQ), the Gallant Commission is hearing testimony from experts this week.

The public hearings are scheduled to end on Friday.

The SAAQ’s failed digital shift is expected to cost taxpayers at least $1.1 billion by 2027, which is $500 million more than expected, according to calculations by Quebec’s Auditor General.

When he launched the commission of inquiry into SAAQclic last March, Premier François Legault made a point of mentioning that Judge Gallant’s findings would be made public before the October 2026 elections.
