NEW CARLISLE — The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is investigating a suspicious death in New Carlisle, in the Gaspésie region. The victim is a man in his twenties. He was found unresponsive on the side of Church Street following a call to the emergency services at around 1:30 am on Wednesday. “The victim was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead,” said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). The victim had signs of injuries, the nature of which had not been specified at the start of the investigation. However, a 33-year-old man was arrested shortly after police arrived at the scene. “He is currently in custody and will be interviewed by investigators,” said Sergeant Deshaies. “The SQ’s Crimes Against Persons Division has taken charge of the case. Later today, we are also expecting a forensic technician to visit the scene to carry out a full analysis,” he added. The Sûreté du Québec’s investigation is ongoing.
