A 25-year-old Quebec man has been slapped with a $1,917 fine and 24 demerit points for driving 201 kilometres per hour on Highway 40. The young man, from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, was pulled over by Quebec provincial police officers posted in Mascouche as he headed west at kilometre 88 at 8 p.m. Tuesday. He was driving more than 100 kilometres over the speed limit. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days, and the vehicle was towed. Speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal crashes on Quebec’s roads, the Sûreté du Québec warns.
