A pedestrian was killed in a collision involving two trucks on Friday morning in the small municipality of Mont-Blanc, population 4,000, in the Laurentians. Emergency services were notified at around 9:15 a.m. of a collision that had just occurred between a cube truck and a heavy goods vehicle on Route 117, near Lac-Nantel Road South. According to initial reports, the victim had left his vehicle, which was parked on the side of the road for another reason. “The pedestrian was struck by the cube truck (...) which lost control of its vehicle following an initial collision with a heavy goods vehicle. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene,” explained Sergeant Ève-Brochu Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). The victim was a man in his 30s. The passenger who was in his vehicle, which was stationary at the side of the road, was taken to hospital suffering from shock, as were the drivers of the two trucks involved and a witness to the incident. Highway 117 was still closed to traffic at Lac-Nantel Sud Road at noon in order to protect the scene and facilitate the work of SQ investigators in this area north of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. “A collision investigation is being conducted to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding the incident,” said the SQ spokesperson.
