It may have slightly less prestige than the Vince Lombardy Trophy handed out to the NFL Super Bowl champion on Monday, but a Montreal flag football team took home the 2025 International Flag Championship trophy at the NFL’s Pro Bowl on the weekend. Montreal’s Team Flight School, made up of U12 boys and girls, beat Japan’s Shonan Seabreeze 28-0 in the championship game. “I’m at a loss for words. This was such a big moment for our team, and for Canada, and we got it done,” said Coach Jamil Springer. “Perseverance is really what drove Flight School to win the International NFL Flag Championships this season and we are so proud of all the effort these kids have put in.” Thirteen other countries sent teams to the three-day flag football tournament in Orlando, Florida before watching the NFL’s best stars do their thing. “It has been a fantastic three days of competition in Orlando, with 13 teams of talented boys and girls from across the world showcasing their skills on a global stage,” said NFL International Flag Football Development spokesperson Afia Law. “The International NFL Flag Championships continues to drive our excitement for the growth of the sport worldwide and for these young athletes — their passion, energy and competitive spirit has been incredible. Congratulations to Team Flight School!” The NFL flag program is the official flag football program for the NFL, which promotes the non-contact version of the sport. Flag football will be included in the 2028 Olympic Games in Australia.
