The City of Montreal and the Montreal Firefighters Association have reached a tentative agreement on the renewal of their collective agreement. The two sides confirmed the agreement Tuesday. The city said the deal was reached over the past few days. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, with the union choosing to give its members the first look, as is customary in such circumstances. “This agreement will be presented to our members, who will vote on it in the coming weeks. Details will be communicated afterward,” the Montreal Firefighters Association said. The collective agreement has been expired since Jan. 1, 2024. Claude Pinard, chair of the executive committee, said the agreement was “the result of many months of active negotiations and collaborative work by both sides. We were able to reconcile fair recognition of the work of our firefighters with our duty to protect the ability of Montrealers to pay. We are pleased to have reached an agreement that is satisfactory to both parties.” “This agreement recognizes the value of their work and the particular realities of their profession, while ensuring Montrealers receive quality services,” Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada said. The city is currently negotiating the renewal of other major collective agreements, including those covering blue-collar and white-collar workers.
