McDonald’s new Red Bull-branded energizer drinks, Dragonberry and Tropicberry, launched across Canada on Tuesday, but will not be sold in Quebec, where a new law bans the sale of energy drinks to anyone under the age of 16. In June, Quebec became the first province in Canada to carry out such a measure, following the 2024 death of 15-year-old Zachary Miron. Miron died after drinking a Red Bull that interacted with his ADHD medication. The law requires vendors to check photo identification for energy drink purchases and halted sales through vending machines or online. McDonald’s Canada said the Quebec rollout is delayed, not cancelled, while it works through how to comply with the province’s new legislation. “McDonald’s Canada is committed to operating in full compliance with all provincial regulations as we introduce Red Bull energizers nationwide,” the company said in a statement to CTV News. “In light of recent changes to this category of beverages in the province of Quebec, we are temporarily delaying the launch in Quebec until we fully understand the compliance requirements.”
