Kirkland’s blue-collar workers are set to hold a two-day strike starting Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The strike, by members of the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal union group, is scheduled from March 4 at 12:01 a.m. to March 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Essential services are set to be maintained.

The Administrative Labour Tribunal ruled that the services proposed and agreed upon by both parties were sufficient.

In its decision, the Tribunal noted that garbage, compost and recycling collections are handled by subcontractors.

It also took into account the fact that the strike is taking place in winter.

As such, the agreement guarantees the availability of on-call workers to do various tasks, such as spreading abrasives or clearing sidewalks and roads, depending on the amount of snow or ice.

This on-call availability also covers major water main breaks, “the filling of potholes dangerous to traffic,” and the removal of debris affecting road traffic “in a dangerous manner.”
