Grand Prix, Habs game, road closures to cause heavy Montreal-area traffic

The Montreal Grand Prix, a Canadiens game, and a series of construction projects will result in heavy traffic in some areas of the city on the weekend.

Planning trips ahead of time or using public transit is advised, particularly if crossing any bridge coming into the city.

Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix

Anyone wanting to go downtown or to Jean-Drapeau Park for race activities is encouraged to use public transit.

Congestion is expected on the Jacques Cartier and Samuel De Champlain bridges, as well as on Route 132.

Lane configuration on the Victoria Bridge will be as follows:

• Friday – One lane towards Montreal from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and one lane towards the South Shore from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. From 10.30 a.m., 1 lane in each direction. No changes for the morning rush hour.
• Saturday – Two lanes towards the South Shore from 7 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. From 10.30 a.m., one lane in each direction.
• Sunday – Two lanes towards the South Shore from 7 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. From 11.30 a.m., one lane in each direction.

Habs game (Bell Centre)

On Saturday, the Montreal Canadiens play the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. Though it’s an away game, crowds of fans have gathered near the Bell Centre to watch the game on big screens.

Expect congestion downtown.

Route-340 / De la Cité-des-Jeunes Boulevard (Vaudreuil-Dorion)

• From Friday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m., the exit and access to and from Highway 30 east will be closed on Route-340 (De la Cité-des-Jeunes Boulevard) in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Highway 40 East

• From 24 May, road surface repair works will begin on Highway 40 East, between the Anjou interchange and the Charles-de-Gaulle Bridge. This project, which will continue until the end of summer 2028, will involve repairing the concrete slab, installing new precast slabs, and repairing joints.

Highway 520

• The reconstruction project for the Highway 520 overpass above 43rd Avenue entered a new phase on May 20 and will cause disruption on Côte-de-Liesse Road in both directions.

Highway 13 South (Laval)

• Since May 18, reconstruction work on a section of Highway 13 South has resumed between Dagenais Boulevard West and Highway 440 (Jean-Noël-Lavoie) in Laval. Traffic will continue to flow in the area, but lanes will be diverted and their number reduced.
