Montreal police’s arson unit is investigating after a beauty salon was targeted by arson early Saturday in Montreal’s Villeray area, police said. Several 911 calls were made to police around 3:50 a.m. about a fire that broke out in a commercial and residential building located on Rue St-Hubert, near Rue Faillon. According to the police, more than one suspect broke the salon’s window before setting fire inside. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived. Police confirmed they found incendiary material at the scene. No injuries were reported, and the damage to the building is minor, police said. Some nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. A perimeter was set up to allow investigators to analyze the scene and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are looking to obtain nearby surveillance footage as part of the investigation. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
