A Montreal man has been arrested for allegedly making death threats on Facebook.

David Abitbol was arrested at his parents' home in the north end of Montreal early Saturday. The Surete du Quebec say they found five weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and seized Abitbol's computer in the pre-dawn raid.

The 28-year-old was later arraigned at a Montreal court for uttering threats and improper storage of a firearm. Police say more charges could follow.

"He made threats against several former students and teachers," Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Richard Gagné told The Canadian Press.

Police say they cannot reveal which school is involved, as it is part of the ongoing investigation.

None of the allegations against Abitbol have been proven in court.

Joseph Abitbol says the police have got the wrong idea about his son.

"Nothing is real, it's a game, a virtual game," Abitbol told CTV News, explaining that his son enjoys playing video games in his spare time. He is also a gun club member and enjoys going to the shooting range.

"He was in the Club de Tir, no one can stop this gentleman to go buy arms and get in the Club de Tir," Abitson said, insisting the arrest stems from a misunderstanding.

The arrest came just one day after police received a tip someone using the moniker "Dark Killer" had posted threatening messages on the popular social networking website.

Although there are several profiles containing the name "Dark Killer", a Facebook search for the handle returns one with apparent Montreal connections: David Darkiller. The user's page links to more than 60 friends, many of them attending Montreal-area schools; uses a profile photo depicting guns and ammunition; and cites "Death is the only solution" as a favourite quote.

Abitbol will remain in custody until his bail hearing scheduled for Monday.
