MONTREAL - A man who armed himself with high-powered weapons because he believed elves were stalking him says he understands his need for psychiatric help.
David Abitbol told his bail hearing in Montreal today he felt it was time to seek help when a police officer earlier this week read transcripts of the accused's Internet chats.
Abitbol is charged with uttering death threats on Facebook.
The 28-year-old man is also facing child pornography charges as well as allegations he improperly stored firearms.
Earlier testimony at the hearing revealed Abitbol thought he saw elves everywhere and needed the firepower to keep them at bay.
A decision on whether to grant Abitbol bail might be made later today.
