London’s unemployment rate rose last month and is now the highest in the country. Statistics Canada figures list London’s unemployment rate at 9.1 per cent, citing 3,000 jobs lost in March. The unemployment rate was 8.8 per cent in February. The national rate remained at 6.7 per cent. Ontario’s average also remained unchanged at 7.6 per cent. “The regions in southwestern Ontario are particularly being hard hit by the trade volatility and really the trade uncertainty with the United States,” said Mahmood Nanji, Ivey Business School. “Of course, what’s making this even worse is the geopolitical tensions as well too. So these numbers are very, very concerning.”
