The Thames Valley District School Board has received provincial funding for a new elementary school in Thamesford. The board is receiving $10.5 million from the Ministry of Education for a new elementary school. The funds will go toward the acquisition of a 7.7-acre site at 149 Brock Street, Thamesford. TVDSB originally received approval for $23.4 million in funding for the construction of a new elementary school and childcare centre from the Ministry of Education in January 2025. The new school will be designed to accommodate 479 students from junior kindergarten to grade four, in addition to a five-room, 88-space childcare facility. Directed of Education Bill Tucker is quoted in a statement saying, “We are very excited to announce this milestone related to building a new school. It shows our board’s continuing commitment to provide quality education for all students.” The new school will be in what is described by the board as a new, transformational development called Riverside Village. More than 1,000 residential units are expected to be developed in this area. Construction on the new Thamesford school will begin once development in Riverside Village moves forward. An opening date will be confirmed at that time. When the new school opens, Thamesford Public School will be converted into a school for students in grades five through eight.
