A suspect is in custody following a targeted threat in St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) on Thursday, according to St. Thomas police. In a social media post, police said it was a threat targeted at an individual staff member at the hospital. STEGH declared a code silver, a person with a weapon, at about 3:30 p.m. As a precaution, the hospital was placed on active hold and all public entrances were secured. At about 6 p.m. code silver was declared over. STEGH says while there is no ongoing threat, the hospital remains in a controlled access situation as an added precaution. Access to the hospital is currently limited to one designated entrance, the north entrance beside the Emergency Department.
