A Sarnia man is facing charges in connection with the death of an 18-year-old woman earlier this year. Sarnia police say officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Nelson Street on June 16 after receiving a report of a sudden death. When officers arrived, they located 18-year-old Leia Cooper deceased inside the home. Police launched an investigation and requested a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Earlier this month, the Office of the Chief Coroner determined Cooper’s cause of death. Based on those findings and the ongoing investigation, Sarnia police used a search warrant on Wednesday and arrested a 21-year-old Sarnia man. The accused has been charged with manslaughter and trafficking a controlled substance. Police said no further information, including the cause of death, will be released as the matter is now before the courts.
