Expect a mix of sunshine and unsettled weather Tuesday, with the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms increasing through the afternoon. Meteorologist Julie Atchison said the day will begin with sunny conditions before humidity and instability build later in the day. “We have some sunshine to get you through the better part of the day, but scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop as we head into the late afternoon,” Atchison said. The main concern with any storms that develop will be heavy rainfall. “The main threats will be torrential downpours,” she added. Tuesday’s high is expected to reach 27 C, although humid conditions will make it feel closer to 32 C. The unsettled pattern is expected to continue through much of the week. Wednesday will be mainly cloudy with some sunny breaks, while the chance of showers increases again Wednesday night, with precipitation probabilities climbing to about 60 per cent. Atchison said a stationary weather boundary lingering south of the Great Lakes is driving the persistent risk of showers and storms. “We have this stationary boundary hanging out south of the Great Lakes, and it continues to wave its way through. That’s creating the instability and the risk for showers that will linger through the week.” Conditions are expected to improve slightly by Friday, with a mix of sun and cloud in the forecast. Temperatures will remain somewhat cooler than seasonal norms through the weekend, with daytime highs forecast to range between 23 C and 24 C. “That’s a bit below normal for this time of year,” said Atchison.
