ZAHAR Perfumes, a perfume store in London, Ont., is going viral as Londoners document their experience custom-making their very own scents. “A lot of our customers say that they have watched our videos on Instagram or TikTok,” said Mohammed Mahar, owner of Zahar Perfumes. “That’s how they came to know about us.” The surge in popularity came following the social media fad of users wearing a “brand new” perfume on their wedding day, crediting smell as the “strongest sense” for recalling emotions. Mahar said each scent is unique and caters to an individual’s likes and dislikes. “When they are making their own, some people don’t like woody scents, some people don’t like sweet scents,” said Mahar. “We craft each perfume note by note.” Customers also have the option to name their perfume a creative title that is meaningful to them.
