Child’s quick action leads to safe escape during Sarnia, Ont. IPV Incident

A woman and her kids are safe after one of the kids ran from their home to a neighbour’s to ask for help.

Just before 8 a.m. on Thursday, Sarnia police got a call for an in-progress intimate partner violence (IPV) at a home on Lakeshore Road.

When officers arrived they were able to get the woman and her kids out, and saw the woman had facial injuries — the man was now in the house alone and refused to come out.

The Sarnia Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called, as well as the K9 Unit, crisis negotiators, and a critical incident commander.

According to police, the man surrendered himself around 10 a.m. and was taken into custody.

Here’s the charges laid against a Sarnia man

• Assault x 8 
• Assault Cause Bodily Harm
• Assault with a Weapon
• Forcible Confinement
• Breach of Release order x 2

Police remained at the scene while a search warrant was used to gather additional evidence.

The Criminal Investigations Division has now assumed responsibility for this matter and there may be additional charges.
