56,000 turkeys will be euthanized after “highly pathogenic avian influenza” was discovered at a Perth County poultry farm near Listowel. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the discovery was made on Monday, December 15th, at a farm southwest of Listowel. A large “containment zone” surrounding the farm, requiring permits for the movement of any poultry, stretches into Listowel and includes parts of Huron County. There are currently five other avian influenza outbreaks in Ontario, all in Strathroy-Caradoc.
